The Desmond Center for Community Engagement and Wellness, a °ÄÃÅ¿ª½±Íø initiative, announces its May 2024 events.

All events are open to the community, and unless otherwise noted, are free. The °ÄÃÅ¿ª½±Íø campus is located at 330 Powell Ave., Newburgh, N.Y.

The center provides wellness and educational services for underserved individuals and families, including the uninsured.

Wednesday, May 1:  Pilates with Angela, 6 - 7 p.m.

Thursday, May 2:  Zumba with Lola, 6 - 7 p.m.

Location: °ÄÃÅ¿ª½±Íø’s Desmond Center, room 101

 

Saturday, May 4: Girl Talk: Own Your Glow, 10 a.m. – 12:30 p.m.

Location: °ÄÃÅ¿ª½±Íø’s Guzman Hall 

Description: Join our empowering workshop designed for local middle-school-aged individuals (10-14) identifying as female. Led by licensed social workers, movement instructors, and health educators, attendees will participate in three interactive workshops centered around emotional health, movement/self-care, and physical health.

Location: South Street, between Liberty and Grand, Newburgh

 

Tuesday, May 7: Yoga with Kaylan, 6 - 7 p.m.

Saturday, May 11 Community Hike with Outdoor Promise, Noon – 3:30 p.m.

Location: Meet-up location will be provided in the confirmation email.

Thursday, May 23: “Every Brilliant Thing” Play and Mental Health Discussion, 7 – 8 p.m.

James Phillips, associate professor of Theatre, will perform this one man play, which tells the story of a boy who, to ease his mother’s depression, begins creating a list of all the things worth living for. From ice cream to martial arts movies, the list grows as the boy enters adulthood, as he deals with depression, love, trials, and victories.

Location: Aquinas Hall Theatre
